Where Do I Start?

Once you have signed up to JOIN The McEvoy Atelier of Drawing and Painting start with the Foundations of Drawing. All you need is a pencil and paper.

Start With: FOUNDATION IN DRAWING
At the beginning. As Kevin’s teaching methodology incorporates all of these basic concepts, It is important that students start at the beginning, even if they are advanced artists. If students start at later courses, they chance missing out on shared vocabulary with Kevin key, which communicates fundamental concepts that Kevin uses throughout upcoming lessons. These initial concepts are the building blocks that will enable students to draw and paint what they see, equipping the artist to develop their own craft, and ultimately enabling them to find their own voice.

Start with: Foundations of Drawing  (Below is Suggested Schedule)

What Will I need To Start?

A Pencil, Paper, Eraser and Sharpener. Thats it. Just Start with what you have on hand and as you develop as an artist get more supplies.

Suggested Weekly Schedule

  • Day 1: Watch the video lesson and review the art references
  • Days 2-4: Work on the activity at the end of the lesson for 20 to 40 minutes per day
  • Ask any questions on the weekly Q&A on the private Facebook page, the McEvoy Atelier.

What Do Artists Need?

The basis of all art requires the ability to draw. What is the ability to draw, though? To learn to draw is to learn to see.

When do I begin to paint?

When building a home, it would be unthinkable to attempt to paint the walls of the house before the foundation has even been poured. Likewise, we must learn the foundations of drawing, before picking up our brushes.

Who can take these courses?

Any artist, at any level, ages 9 and up can take advantage of the courses offered here and move through them at their own pace. We offer individual art instruction in a low pressure format, where they can review the video instruction over and over when necessary.

Where do I start?

We recommend that everyone, regardless of skill level, starts with the first course: Foundations. This way you understand the concepts and language being taught throughout the courses. More advanced students can move through the early courses at a faster pace, but it is best that they still do complete them. Conversely, beginning students are encouraged to review the instructions videos as much as necessary and to take their time practicing the concepts. The importance of practice, ideally 5 times a week or daily, cannot be stressed enough. It’s better to do twenty minutes a day every day of the week, than doing four hours on one day. Just like learning a musical instrument mastering the visual arts requires steady practice.

With your subscription you have access to all of the courses ranging from Foundational Drawing lessons to Portrait Painting Courses to Imaginative/Conceptual Drawing, with new courses being added monthly. You will also have access to a private FB page with all our individual members, in which you can participate in the weekly Q&A session with any brief questions you may run into while participating in a course.
